Old News, brother - 2007 style

News :

12 / 09 / 2007

OK, janky WiFi connection delayed this update a bit ... but here's
a big scoop of obscure NES games available only in Japan - Challenger, Field Combat, Pooyan, Flappy, Antarctic Adventure, Battle City and Tower of Druaga.

12 / 08 / 2007

Alright! Powered by Bomba, we begin the final assault on the Wii Virtual Console review backlog. Right now here's Magician Lord, Shining Force 2, and Volleyball. More to come later on tonight ...

12 / 07 / 2007

Here, suck down some more Virtual Console reviews - Neutopia, Neutopia 2, Strider, Yoshi's Story and Super Street Fighter 2.

12 / 07 / 2007

Metal Marines! Oh yeah! Ready for com-bat!

12 / 06 / 2007

Today we're really Rumbling on the City, boys - Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, Samurai Shodown and King of Fighters '94. (Note that the two good ones of the bunch, KOF 94 and Shodown, are just previews at this point so don't go running to your Virtual Console all excited.)

12 / 05 / 2007

A crop of fun and colorful games for today - Paper Mario, River City Ransom and Landstalker

11 / 30 / 2007

Two prime examples of flawed badassery today - Ninja Gaiden 3 and Rolling Thunder 2

11 / 30 / 2007

The Wii Virtual Console Review page links are now (mostly) fixed.

11 / 29 / 2007

Today I discovered something fascinating about the Wii Virtual Console review index. Apparently, all the links I've added in the last two weeks or so had a chunk cut out of the middle of their URLs for reasons completely beyond my knowing. Also, Associated Content shifted their page structure around at some point, so links to reviews that are over there were quite often pointing to the wrong page. Needless to say this discovery filled me with joy and holiday spirit. I checked anc corrected everything from the letters A to F then lost my will to live. I'll probably recover it tomorrow, or Saturday, and finish cleaning up this mess then ... sorry for the hash guys and gals.

11 / 28 / 2007

*yawn* - Bases Loaded, Bubble Bobble, Columns 3

11 / 27 / 2007

And "just plain mediocre at best" seems to be today's theme ... Samurai Ghost, Atomic Runner and B-b-baseball Stars 2.

11 / 25 / 2007

"Cute but not too exciting" is the theme of the day today - reviews of Air Zonk, Dynamite Headdy and Galaga '90

11 / 24 / 2007

A few oddballs to throw on the pile today - Blue's Journey, Legend of Hero Tonma and NES Play Action Football.

11 / 21 / 2007

OK troops, the objective is to get the Wii Virtual Console section fully up to date by the end of the year. There are about 50 games left on the list and about 30 actually have reviews done thanks to our Hit Squad, they're just waiting to be HTMLized.

Thanks to surgery on my arm yesterday (and stitches), I now have a lot of stuff chopped out of my schedule while I wait for it to heal - no more heavy lifting, working out, ninjer kung fu training, swimming, air guitar or strenuous masturbation for two weeks. That combined with the holiday weekend equals a lot more time sitting around in the near future. So we'll step up the pace here and make a concerted effort at getting this backlog cleared.

Today's crop of games is bigger than usual, but admittedly none of them are really all that inspiring -

Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Ecco 2, Donkey Kong Jr. Math, World Heroes,
Cybernator, and Sonic 3D Blast

11 / 19 / 2007

Banzaaaaiiiiii! Balloon Fight, Mega Man and Golden Axe 2

11 / 19 / 2007

Chaaaaarge! Kid Chameleon, Super Mario Bros. 2 and Shockman

11 / 18 / 2007

In the interest of getting caught up by the end of the year, here's a weekend double feature - Uniracers, Vegas Stakes and World Class Baseball

11 / 17 / 2007

Well I guess the big Super Mario Galaxy is here and it's the weekend .... so let's check out, uh, Super C, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Thunder Blade

11 / 15 / 2007

Let's take a little break from all the WiiWiing to check out this oddball Atlus RPG Riviera, one of the swan songs for the good old Gameboy Advance

11 / 13 / 2007

Hot threesome action - Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Spy V.S. Spy and Streets of Rage 3

11 / 09 / 2007

The Review Brew Crew just won't rest until we get the Wii section all up to date and Modernized ... today we have Golden Axe 3 ... and, what's this? Our old nemesis Ha-Gane seems to have arrived!

11 / 06 / 2007

Big wheel a keep on toinin ... here's Dr. Mario and E-SWAT

11 / 04 / 2007

We return to the Wii salt pits with Axelay and Crack Down

11 / 02 / 2007

Happy Dia de los Muertos, here's uh ... Castlevania 2

10 / 31 / 2007

Happy Hellloweeeeeeeeen!!! It seemed like a good day to break out
some Clock Tower, which is our newest Mystelious Challenger.

10 / 28 / 2007

Alright boys, thanks for all your hard work but I'm going to have to take the con back temporarily for Ninja Gaiden 2. It's kind of a sacred thing to me, you understand.

10 / 27 / 2007

Our noobs diligently chip away at the Virtual Console backlog with Wrecking Crew and Wave Race 64

10 / 26 / 2007

10 / 25 / 2007

I'm a busy man and all this writing is tiring work ... so I've subcontracted out the Wii Virtual Console reviews to a team of seasoned professionals whose work I think you'll really enjoy. Look for their first efforts here soon!

10 / 24 / 2007

Hmm ... as far as the videos go, I think I actually won't bother with anything that already has tons of footage available ... unless it's something particularly amusing, or the game has nothing but bloated speed run vids available.

Also, a new Mystelious Challenger has emerged ... an extreme obscurity that, despite being rough around the edges and kind of hodgepodge, still deserves entry into the annums of Badass Platforming - namely Skyblazer, one of the few games Sony released for the SNES (and possibly the only good one).

10 / 24 / 2007

I mentioned a few updates ago that I was adding video links to most of the articles ... well, instead of gaffing other people's gameplay vids, I'm now going back through and creating my own gameplay vids. The links are going up on each article page but you can also scope the newest vids by going to my Youtube page. Enjoy the chaos ...

10 / 22 / 2007

Three more Wii VC games that are of little consequence - Toejam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron, Cratermaze and Drop Off.

10 / 21 / 2007

Vastly important news! ... actually, three Wii Virtual Console entries that you don't even really need to read since the games aren't really worth thinking about ... well Breath of Fire 2 and Shining In The Darkness might sucker you in with their cute visuals and small cults of vocal fanatics ... but I don't think Lunar Pool is going to appeal to much of anybody.

10 / 20 / 2007

I was playing this Chrono Trigger rom hack and then I decided, well, why not write something about Chrono Trigger with tons of screenshots while I'm at it.

10 / 01 / 2007

Opened a new section today, the MMOG Bog (under Articles & Reviews) with a look at Exodus 3000, a fairly recent freebie browser-based game that tempts you with the possibility of earning cash to play (of course they don't make it real easy on you ... peep the article for further details)

09 / 30 / 2007

And some Metroid Fusion to round out the GBA Metroid games.

09 / 27 / 2007

Here's some Metroid : Zero Mission to snack on

09 / 20 / 2007

Two new Wii Virtual Console reviews : Shinobi 3 and Silent Debuggers

09 / 19 / 2007

Hmm, I had this old review of Final Fantasy 4 Advance just sitting around on my hard drive for the longest, so I took a few minutes to polish it up and chuck it on the pile

09 / 02 / 2007

Just a lil' update to keep things cracklin and poppin around here - a handful of Wii Virtual Console reviews, all Turbografx games (China Warrior, Ninja Spirit, World Sports Competition and JJ & Jeff). I'm not doing direct links to them off the news page, as I can probably save you some time by telling you now that they're all pretty mediocre.

08 / 26 / 2007

A new Mystelious Challenger has arrived ... the always interesting Radical Dreamers

08 / 24 / 2007

Can't believe I forgot to mention this, as it's been done for a few weeks now - I added links to Youtube videos of gameplay footage in most of the reviews. Ideally I'll create my own videos for use as demos here, at some point, but things are just too busy now, so I've gaffed the work of other people instead!

08 / 24 / 2007

I've had a rather lengthy essay about Square's Live A Live brewing for some time, but I think I'm going to save it for after Aeon Genesis Translations releases their new 2.0 Translation Patch of it. Nice as it is to have any sort of translation, the existing translation that's been out for years now is highly squirrely and hard to understand sometimes.

08 / 24 / 2007

Figured, while I'm on this Fire Emblem kick, might as well round out the GBA trilogy with Fire Emblem 6. That's it for Fire Emblem for awhile, I promise.

08 / 11 / 2007

One update a month, this place is on fire! I subjected myself to some more Fire Emblem, this time The Sacred Stones for GBA

07 / 19 / 2007

Hoisted the AUS flag up next to all the Turbografx games since they finally worked out that deal. Some won't actually be released for a few days yet I think, but meh, that page is a mess anyway

07 / 02 / 2007

Well Fire Emblem 4 got me on a Fire Emblem kick, so here's ... Fire Emblem, to debut the new Nintendo Handheld Archive section

06 / 09 / 2007

Was gone for a week because Fire Emblem 4 ate up too damn much of my time. Plus, Streets of Rage 2 and Dead Moon.

06 / 02 / 2007

Got cute flags up for the Wii VC stuff indicating what's been released in what country. If there's no flag, it's something that's been announced but is in preview stage yet.

05 / 31 / 2007

A spate of new Virtual Console stuff is up (almost Got 'Em All!), though most of the games looked at this time out are honestly crap ... though Shadow Dancer turned out to be quite a little Badass Sidescroller.

The Wii VC menu is getting a bit out of control ... it's really best to just click directly on the Index Page to get a full listing. I'll get the sidebar menu fixed up to something more manageable once I've figured out exactly how ...

05 / 29 / 2007

S'more Virtual Console stuff .. most notably Shin Megami Tensei, which is only available in Japan and which most people get intrigued by when they hear that the game is about slaughtering the forces of God or Satan or both depending on your mood. Unfortunately the gameplay leaves a bit to be desired...

05 / 28 / 2007

PC Archive debuts with a look at Leisure Suit Larry 2

05 / 27 / 2007

Whew! Got that whole Wii backlog cleared out finally. What it is now, is basically a stew of games that have been released in NA as well as releases that are currently Euro/Japan exclusives, and then there's a couple of previews of things that are confirmed future releases but not actually out yet. And nothing's labeled properly. Think of it as a delicious stir fry whose ingredients are mysterious. I really don't like numerical scores in reviews, but I pulled some out my butt anyway just because apparently some people go into meltdown mode if they don't have arbitrary numbers attached to a review.

Also up is a new Mystelious Challenger, the very intriguing Majyuuou (King of Demons) for SNES

05 / 25 / 2007

OK I also rearranged the Wii review thing and I have a slew of new ones to add, which will occur throughout today and tomorrow probably.

05 / 25 / 2007

Finally, some action! Two new sections under Articles & Reviews -
Mystelious Challengers looks at old games that flew under most everyone's radar for one reason or another despite being excellent, whereas Crapsule looks at games that are ... the opposite.

04 / 22/ 2007

All the Wii Virtual Console articles are up now, which covered everything, up until they released Punch-Out and whatever else last weekend. I dunno if I'll continue with them, maybe if I can find an alternate way to make quick cash.

Also was picking through old files from the ruins of old websites and I found some walkthroughs and stuff that I did, if you want to read the finest in strategy from half a decade or so ago then feel free to enjoy under the Skeevious Strategy section ... if anything in there says TO BE CONTINUED or COMING SOON ignore it, it isn't. Oh, I also gotta format them properly, but that's a long boring job and I don't wanna do it right now.

Hmmm .. oh yeah, there is one new thing in there - got the urge to run through Uncharted Waters 2 again recently so I tossed together a guide for beginners in an evening, in an effort to help newbies get a foothold in this game.

We're awake .... aw yeah
